Community Renewable Energy Services, Inc., a sister corporation of Community Recycling and Crown Disposal, purchased Dinuba Energy on May 10, 2003.
This 12 MW biomass-fueled power plant was constructed alongside the Sierra Forest Industries sawmill facility located in Dinuba, California. The facility originally burned sawmill residue with some urban and agricultural wood residues. The facility operated from 1985 to1995, when PG&E purchased the electricity sales contract from the original owners. In 1999, the adjacent sawmill was shut down and removed. In early 2000, the power plant was gifted to California State University, Fresno and the school hired Yanke Energy (the original facility builder) to refurbish and restart the plant. During the time the facility was owned by the school. Community Recycling was the major fuel supplier.
Since the 2003 acquisition, when operating at full output, the facility will consume approximately 300 tons per day of wood fuel. . The facility currently has a contract with Pacific Gas & Electric for sale of the green renewable electricity produced
