Frontier Renewable Resources is owned by Mascoma and J.M. Longyear. Opposed by Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians 2/2012: funding secured. using pretreated enzymatic hydrolysis process and would use genetically modified bacteria to break down and ferment CEO Bruce Jamerson estimated the new plant plan could produce 150 gallons of ethanol out of a cord of wood, or 128 cubic feet, and the total investment for the plant will be $100 million. Latest figure (2009) is $200 million in capital costs. Received grants of $26 million from the US DOE, and $23.5 million from the State of Michigan. Expected to begin production in late 2011.
