This plant heats 80% of downtown buildings. With the issuance of the permit that allowed for the installation of Boiler 7, a wood fired boiler, District Energy committed to modifying boiler such that it was no longer capable of burning solid fuels, and would only burn natural gas and propane. The permit required the modification to Boiler 4 within 180 days of the Boiler 7 reaching full capacity (which occurred in April of 2003.) District Energy’s downtown district heating plant consists of two coal fired boilers, three gas/oil fired boilers, a waste wood fired boiler, and a gas/propane fired boiler. Permit No. 12300063-001, issued November 13, 2001, authorized installation of the wood waste fired boiler, and required cessation of coal burning in boiler 4 Produces 25 MW of electricity; 65 MW thermal energy 2001: Saint Paul Cogeneration LLC is a joint venture company formed by Trigen Energy Corporation (White Plains, N.Y.), Cinergy Solutions Inc (Cincinnati) and Market Street Energy (St. Paul, Minn.), an affiliate of District Energy St. Paul Inc.
