Notes
Feb 2011: company withdrew the proposal and asked to have their state air pollution permit revoked; it was revoked on 2/28/2011 municipal solid waste (MSW) [50%] and construction and demolicion (C&D) waste [50%] Joint Venture with TransLoad America 4,000 tpd/3,200 tpd refuse-derived fuel (RDF) The plant, a project by Jefferson Renewable Energy, would bring in waste from a New Jersey landfill to the township. Once there, the waste will be sorted to remove recyclable metals and materials unfit for incineration. Then the selected waste will be incinerated to create approximately 65 megawatts of electricity a day -- enough to power 50,000 homes. About 1.5 of those megawatts would run the plant. The rest of the power would be redirected to other areas using the township's power grid. According to a May 2010 article (see links), this plant "remains in limbo" and their air permit, issued by Ohio EPA to Mahoning Renewable Energy in April 2009, is being appealed at the Environmental Review Appeals Commission. It also states that "the company also submitted a solid waste permit and were told additional details were needed, but haven't responded to that Ohio EPA request, preventing the application review to proceed."
