This plant faced local opposition in Tallahassee and forced BG&E to withdraw the air permit. However, in February 2011, the company reapplied for the permit in Port St Joe.
Woody Biomass, Yard Trash (<=5%) and/or Fuel Crops
The project is a biomass integrated gasification combined cycle facility. It is a 47 MW net electric generating plant requiring 735 bone dry tons of woody biomass per day. It is sited in an industrial zone - formerly a coal distribution spot.
The project consists of a biomass fuel “wood chips” delivery/ handling system, a biomass gasification system, a biomass dryer, a gas cleanup system, two gas combustion turbines, two heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) with duct burner firing, condensing steam turbine generator, an auxiliary natural gas fired package boiler for start-up use only, an emergency flare system, cooling towers, and auxiliary support equipment such as air systems.
The plant will provide ~ 25 permanent jobs. BG&E also plans to have a 6,000 acre growing space to grow the biomass feedstock.
The plant will produce 30-40 tons of ash/day which may be used as landfill cover etc.
