Proposed in 2009, this IGCC/CCS facility will be built on a 100 acre brownfields site. SCS Energy LLC pledges a 90% sequestration (of carbon dioxide) rate. The carbon will be sequested 100 miles offshore in a solely federal jurisdiction. The geology is similar to that by the Sleipner project (North Sea) The coal plant is proposed in one of the counties with the worst air pollution in the country (according to EPA data). It is extremely close to Pralls Island Wildlife Refuge and along the Arthur Kill waterway.
