It seems this proposal never went anywhere, however, this PR from Tyson which came out just a few months after the press releases in the summer of 2001 went out, purports that the facility was already in operation: "In Temperanceville, Virginia, Tyson recently launched a new gasification facility -- adjacent to its poultry processing plant -- with the help of Renewable Energy, an Australian-based company. A significant investment, the facility converts poultry waste skimmed from the top of the company's wastewater treatment plants into energy to be used by the Temperanceville protein conversion plant. The process greatly reduces sulfur emissions and reduces the amount of land application for chicken waste and DAF sludge. Tyson was not deterred by the hefty price tag associated with the new facility. Its commitment to the environment and community justified the expense of the capital investment. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the process, Tyson uses the post-treatment wastewater to refill the plant's aquarium, which is home to a sampling of aquatic life found in Virginia's waters.
