56% of the heat value of the fuel coming from the
bagasse. The average heat content for the bagassed fired by the facility is
7.4 mmBTU per short ton, with a moisture content of 51% and an ash content
of 2.4%. The wood waste is collected from within a 100 mile radius of the
facilty. The average heat content for the wood waste is 9.0 mmBTU per short
ton, with a moisture content of 33% and an ash content of 7%. By burning
wood waste, the Facility saves approximately 2 million cubic yards of
landfill space each year. It sells electricity into wholesale markets year
around and during the milling season, supplies steam at various pressures to
a neighboring sugar mill and refinery, which also belongs to FC. Output is
58.0 mW net during the milling season and 74.9 mW net during the "dead
season". Mill capacity is 1,000 short tons of cane per hour
The facility consists of three stoker-fired boilers and one turbogenerator.
Each ABB-CE boiler can produce 440,000 lb/hour of steam at 1,565 psig and
955 deg F. It incorporates a Detroit Stoker vibrating grate spreader stoker
plus optimized air supply and distribution. A multi-cyclone mechanical dust
collector, an electrostatic precipitator and a non-catalytic reduction
system are installed on each boiler, for the control of emissions.
The turbine is an MHI/Westinghouse 3,600 rpm, extraction condensing, down
exhaust steam turbine directly coupled to a two-pole synchronous 13.8 kV, 60
Hz. Sieman/Westing-house generator.
