Notes
Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) announced late in 2004 (see Philly Weekly article) that they plan to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Port Richmond section of Northeast Philadelphia. PGW was in talks with Amerada Hess for about nine months in pursuit of a contract for Hess to operate the facility. Negotiations fell through in March 2006, a month after Philadelphia City Council voted 12-2 to pass a strong resolution in opposition to the terminal. The two "no" votes were Councilmen Nutter and Mariano. Tasco and Ramos (who sit on the Philadelphia Gas Commission) abstained. This resolution was the political death of this project, as it indicated to PGW and any potential developer that council isn't likely to approve the facility. PGW kept trying to pursue the idea for over another year before apparently giving up. See http://www.actionpa.org/lng/ for related documents.
