Plans to sequester carbon. This plant is "designed to produce fertilizer from the coal gasification process" Located two miles outside of American Falls, on a 450 acre Superfund site. In 2007 the Pocatello Mayor spoke out in opposition to this plant. As of February 2009 had air quality permit, looking for financing. Will import 2,000 tons of coal daily. Will emit 2.3 million tons of carbon dioxide/year, equivalent to 5% of the states total annual CO2 emissions. In November 2009, after legal wrangling with Sierra Club, Southeast Idaho Energy, Inc. agreed to reduce greenhouse gas emisisons by more than 58% of the origianal proposal. After a settlement, Southeast Idaho Energy, Inc. revised its permit to reflect the planned emissions reduction.
