As of February 2009 had air quality permit, looking for financing. Will import 2,000 tons of coal daily. Will emit 2.3 million tons of carbon dioxide/year, equivalent to 5% of the states total annual CO2 emissions.
In November 2009, after legal wrangling with Sierra Club, Southeast Idaho Energy, Inc. agreed to reduce greenhouse gas emisisons by more than 58% of the origianal proposal. After a settlement, Southeast Idaho Energy, Inc. revised its permit to reflect the planned emissions reduction.
